ABSTRACT
The main objective of this research is to investigate the influence of Performance Expectation, Effort Expectation, Social Environment, Supporting Facilities, and Habits on the use of digital payment system in Banda Aceh, while considering social status as a moderating variable. It should be noted that digital transformation has been taking place at a fast pace in Banda Aceh and it calls for a clear understanding of all the factors affecting the adoption of technology. Data collection for the research was done by using the questionnaire which was provided to the residents of Banda Aceh. The analysis of the data was conducted through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The findings show that there is a positive and significant impact of Performance Expectations, Effort Expectations, Social Environment, Supporting Facilities, and Habits on Social Status. Also, it can be concluded that Social Status has a positive and significant effect on the use of digital payment systems. The tests for mediating effect showed that Social Status is a partial mediator of all independent variables and the use of digital payment systems. This indicates that the choice made by the people of Banda Aceh regarding the use of digital payment methods does not depend only on the gains, convenience, and availability of services but it also depends upon the need for achieving social recognition, enhancing self-image, and gaining prestige in society. In light of these outcomes, the process of promoting digitalization in Banda Aceh cannot only be based on enhancing technological performance and infrastructure but also on creating positive attitudes towards digital lifestyle and the importance of social prestige.
