ABSTRACT

This study examines the role of land transportation systems in the coal mining industry in Indonesia, with a focus on how technological innovation influences supply chain performance. As a critical component of coal logistics, transportation connects mining operations with processing and distribution networks, yet faces persistent challenges including infrastructure limitations, high operational costs, and coordination complexities. This paper adopts a conceptual approach through an extensive review and synthesis of existing literature on supply chain management, mining logistics, and transportation systems. The analysis highlights the strategic importance of land-based transportation modes, particularly trucks and rail, and explores how emerging technologies such as GPS-based fleet management systems, digital monitoring platforms, and automation can enhance operational efficiency and reliability. The study proposes that the integration of innovation and technology plays a pivotal role in addressing logistical inefficiencies, improving transparency, and strengthening supply chain coordination. This research contributes to the theoretical understanding of transportation system optimization in the mining sector and provides insights for future research and industry application in the context of Industry 4.0.
