ABSTRACT

The study focused on determining the effectiveness of Catch-Up Friday in the Reading Competence of Senior High School Students. Technical–Vocational– Livelihood (TVL) Students in Malvar Senior High School, located in Malvar District, Batangas, were chosen as the respondents for the study. The one-group pre-assessment and post-assessment tests were used as the primary data collection instrument. Initial actions were conducted before the assessment, including the validation of pre-assessment and post-assessment reading activities. Additionally, necessary permissions were obtained to ensure the smooth flow of the study. The findings revealed that, before the intervention, students demonstrated an average level of reading competence. After implementing Catch-Up Friday, significant improvements were observed in different aspects, suggesting that the intervention effectively enhanced students’ reading competence. The study concludes that reading interventions, such as Catch-Up Friday, play a crucial role in enhancing students’ reading competence. It is recommended that educators integrate similar strategies to enhance and strengthen students' skills. Future research may investigate the long-term effects and other aspects of reading interventions to enhance students’ skills further.
