ABSTRACT
The objective of this study was to explore the motivations of social entrepreneurs and to better understand the diversity of the social entrepreneurship phenomenon, thereby contributing to filling the gap in research on the subject and enriching empirical data. The article highlights the diversity of social entrepreneurship. In addition to grouping the entrepreneurs studied, the authors identified four groups of motivational factors that, together, can encourage the creation and management of a social enterprise. The elements of the resulting motivational structure are as follows: external financial motivations, entrepreneurial motivations, social motivations, and personal motivations. The latter can be subdivided into two categories depending on whether the motivation aims at the well-being of the individual or that of the community. The authors' findings also show that the social entrepreneurs studied are characterized by strong relational motivation and a higher level of maturity in terms of power motivation, due to their prosocial motivations and collectivist values, in addition to the high level of success-driven motivation that characterizes traditional entrepreneurs.
KEYWORDS:motivation, social entrepreneur, needs theory, Tunisia.
